some of my favorite things…{2012}

sorry for the lapse in posts lately…life gets in the way…

And…I also had a great weekend with my best friend, Robin.  It was just what I needed, real girl time to just talk, go to lunch, get our nails done, sit at the beach, talk more, drive to the city, drink, eat and we had a blast.  all weekend we had great talks about everything under the sun and it is so nice when you are with someone who you have been best friends with for over 25 years, where anything goes…I truly needed that.  I have always been so grateful for my friendships and it made start to think about some of my other favorite things…enjoy!  xo ♥

happy mother’s day {a dedication & thank you}

happy mother’s day…a dedication & thank you

Mother’s day has been a bittersweet day for me for the past 22 years.  I lost my mom at age 15 and she died at age 48, all together way too young for both of us.  This day in particular would make me stop in my tracks and think about her, wishing she was here.  Especially now that I have my son, Ben – I just wish she could meet him, enjoy him and smother him with love.  And, I wish she knew me now versus then because I know I was a brat in those years.  I always wanted her to know me now…and I wish I had been there for her more, then.  My mom gave birth to three amazing women {Robin’s chicks} and I am blessed to have both of my sisters in my life today.  I miss you mom & happy mother’s day Laura & Betsy!

I say bittersweet because I was so fortunate enough that when my parents got divorced when I was 4ish, my dad remarried an incredible woman, Lois who became my stepmother.  I have always called her mom because she is my mom.  She raised me, dealt with me and hung in there through the years.  I have apologized several times for the way I treated her through the years but the bottom line is she and I have been very close and have shared more than anyone knows and I love her probably more than she knows.  Lately, we have a closeness and a relationship that I am proud of.  It amazes me how amazing she is as a grandmother (Lolo) to Ben and I know she is proud of me as a mom and that means the world to me.  Thank you mom, I love you.

I am also very fortunate to have an amazing mother-in-law who I also call mom.  I know how blessed I am to have her in my life and I cherish our relationship.  We have always had a very special connection from the beginning, always on the same page with so much in common.  She is such a giving, thoughtful and kind person that always goes above and beyond for everyone she knows.  I am very lucky to have her in my life and so is Ben.  “Bibi” loves her grandson more than anything and it means everything to me.  We all love you, mom.

Today, mother’s day takes on a whole new meaning because I am a mommy to the sweetest baby boy in the entire world…Ben.  My husband and I had a very rough road to get Ben.  I have always said that having children is a woman’s rite of passage and unfortunately, this was taken away from me.  We were incredibly lucky, fortunate and blessed to have the opportunity to have our son, via surrogate.  Many couples cannot do this for many reasons, but we made it happen because we never gave up and put everything we had into making Ben our reality.  But, we also always had faith.  We prayed a lot and leaned on each other, our family & friends & physicians {in no particular order}!  If it wasn’t for our surrogate Sara…I would never be able to celebrate mother’s day.  I feel like I could never thank her enough (even though I do, still…all of the time).  She is an angel on earth.  The most selfless person I know.  She hung in there with us through several attempts and again, always had faith & hope for us.  Sara, thank you for being you and for carrying Ben into this world for me.  I will forever be grateful for you.  I love you.

Lastly, Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms, grandmothers and great-grandmothers out there.  This is your day, enjoy!

I heart Bethenny and can relate…

Bethenny Frankel’s new season of “Bethenny Ever After” came back tonight and I loved every minute of it.  This photo is from her recent Elle shoot.  (by the way, did I ever tell you that I did a summer internship at Elle Magazine and assisted styling a photo shoot with Cindy Crawford?!!?)  anyway…back to Bethenny…this shot of her is sexy cool.  I love her and I love her show.  I met Bethenny last year when I went to her book signing of “A Place of Yes” – you can read that post here.  I am so happy for her and yes, she is a bit neurotic but she is real…she lets it all out and she has done everything on her own.  I loved last season when her and Jason went to the bottling plant and she got emotional when she talked about her “seed of an idea” becoming a brand.  She is determined and finally has everything she wants (husband, baby & business) and I love how she talks about the second year of marriage being harder than the first…again, keeping it real and not pretending life is always rosy {even if you are a bizzillionaire).  I also like to see that all of her friends (Lauren) and Shawn {the party planner}, Nick {the food blogger} and her assistant, Julie are all still in her life…I think she is loyal and I admire that.  Her and Jason are sweet and I love how silly they are with each other and how they love Bryn.  She does seem like she is very hard on her self and she even says that she tortures herself more than anyone else. It is sad that with all of the things she has {not just the money, etc…but the new family, friends, Bryn and Jason} that she still seems to have trouble just being grateful and struggles to move on from her past.  I have not walked in her shoes but I wish she would let go sometimes and try not to be perfect all of the time.  BUT, she is hilarious and I guess that is how she releases her {Sugar Honey Iced Tea}!

She also revealed on the Today Show that she had a miscarriage and my heart goes out to her.  Talk about relating to this quote…”That was a very emotional experience … You go through a roller coaster of emotions about it — about your age, about being a woman, about can you have another baby, about are you a failure as a partner, about what if your husband married someone younger. You go through a million different things.”  I was there through several miscarriages, a million ivf tries and ultimately found out I cannot have children.  We were very blessed to have our son Ben through a surrogate but I have felt like a failure.  I felt like we lost our savings because my body failed.  I still go through a ton of emotions about not being able to give Ben a brother or sister…it breaks my heart and always will.  My thoughts and prayers are with her and Jason and I wish them only happiness!

I guess in a way, I relate to Bethenny quite a bit.

We all feel pressure and we can’t do it all.  As a working mom, I know sometimes I feel like I don’t get to do all of the things I used to do.  I always wish I could do more.  If I could, I would travel every weekend to visit family and friends…and then some weekends I don’t want to do anything…because I am spent.  I was just excited to have a day off today and while Ben napped, I reorganized my closet .  That was a little slice of heaven for me.  I then went on to reorganize my husband, Chris’ closet, the linen closet and the bathroom drawers…yes, I’m nuts.  I need to do this to feel normal…I wonder that a therapist would say about that!  I don’t quite organize my underwear in baggies like Bethenny but I am pretty ocd.  I look forward to seeing Bethenny and Jason’s new apartment and how she decides to decorate!  I am waiting for my new family rug to come in and I want to redecorate every room now!

anyway…I hope you enjoy the new season and have fun watching like I do!  xo Cor

happy valentine’s day! {2012}

♥ happy valentine’s day! ♥

here is the card I gave to my sweetie, my husband, Chris!

today was fun for me because I brought my son Ben to his toddler class with valentine’s day cookies, brownies and mini valentine’s day cards and chocolates for his friends…I loved every minute of it.  here is a funny story about my husband’s sweet attempt in buying me roses today.  I come home and I see the roses and I thank him of course.  He is watching me as I begin to put them in the vase, throwing the baby’s breath away with the rest of the stems.  He says, “wait, why are you throwing away the {white stuff}”, i.e. baby’s breath?  and I say {without thinking, of course}…”oh, I hate baby’s breath.”  he then tells me that, oh he paid $5 extra for it.  ooops!  anyway…the thought was there and it was very sweet!  I hope everyone enjoys this special, sweet day with their loved ones!!

xo, ♥ Cor
